Havertz’s Role as a Key Contributor Despite Criticism Despite being labelled the sixth-best striker in the league by some analysts, Kai Havertz has proven vital to Arsenal’s attacking structure this season. His goal against Chelsea came from a well-timed run behind the defence, showcasing his movement and intelligence. Manager Mikel Arteta praised Havertz’s work rate, saying he „does the dirty work that allows others to shine.” Havertz himself admitted he focuses on team success over individual accolades, stating, „If we win, I’m happy.” His contribution highlights how Arsenal’s system maximizes players’ strengths, even when they are not traditional No.9s.

What Does This Win Mean for the Title Race?

Havertz operates primarily as a false nine or left-sided forward in Arteta’s flexible 4-2-3-1 setup, allowing him to drift into half-spaces and link with midfielders. His ability to press high and recover possession fits the team’s defensive intensity. Against Chelsea, he completed three key passes and won two aerial duels, underlining his all-around impact. Arteta has consistently rotated his front three, but Havertz’s versatility makes him a regular starter. His six goals and four assists this season reflect a growing influence, particularly in tight games.

The victory over Chelsea sends a clear message to rivals that Arsenal remain the team to beat this season. With Manchester City drawing their weekend fixture, Arsenal now lead by four points with a game in hand. Maintaining consistency against mid-table sides will be crucial, but the squad’s depth and resilience are evident. If Havertz continues to deliver in big moments, his role may silence critics who question his striking credentials. The focus now shifts to upcoming fixtures against Liverpool and Tottenham, where another win could all but seal the title.

Why is Kai Havertz considered the sixth-best striker in the league? Some analysts rank Havertz lower due to his fewer goals compared to traditional strikers, though his assists and link-up play elevate his overall value.
